INDICATIONS
Promethazine is at several drugs called phenothiazines (FEEN-oh-THYE-a-zeens). It works by changing those things of chemicals inside your brain. Promethazine also acts as an antihistamine. It blocks the results of the naturally sourced chemical histamine with your body.
Promethazine is used to take care of allergic reactions such as itching, runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, hives, and itchy skin rashes.
Promethazine also prevents motion sickness, and treats nausea and vomiting or pain after surgery. It is also used as a sedative or sleep aid.
Promethazine is just not to use in treating the signs of asthma, pneumonia, and other lower respiratory tract infections.
INSTRUCTIONS
Take promethazine exactly as prescribed through your doctor. Do not take it in larger amounts or for over recommended. Follow the directions on your own prescription label.
Your doctor may occasionally improve your dose to ensure that you obtain the best is a result of prescription drugs.
Promethazine might be taken with or without food or milk.
Measure liquid medicine which has a marked measuring spoon or medicine cup, not using a regular table spoon. If you tend not to use a dose-measuring device, ask your friendly phamacist first.
Call a medical expert in case your symptoms usually do not improve, or if they become worse while taking promethazine.
This medication might cause that you have unusual results with certain tests. Tell any doctor who treats you that you are using promethazine.
Seek emergency medical help if you feel you've used too much of this medicine. Overdose symptoms might include severe drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, large pupils, flushing, nausea, vomiting, shallow breathing, and fainting.

Get emergency medical help if you've these signs and symptoms of a hypersensitive reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using promethazine and call your physician at once if you've got some of these serious side effects:
twitching, or uncontrollable movements of your eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs;
tremor (uncontrolled shaking), drooling, trouble swallowing, problems with balance or walking;
feeling restless, jittery, or agitated;
high fever, stiff muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, rapid breathing;
feeling just like you might distribute;
seizure (convulsions);
pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, sore throat, flu symptoms;
decreased night vision, tunnel vision, watery eyes, increased sensitivity to light;
hallucinations, agitation;
nausea and stomach pain, skin rash, and jaundice (yellowing from the skin or eyes);
urinating less than usual you aren't in any respect;
joint pain or swelling with fever, swollen glands, muscle aches, chest pain, vomiting, unusual thoughts or behavior, and patchy pores and skin; or
slow heart rate, weak pulse, fainting, slow breathing (breathing may stop).
Less serious promethazine side effects can sometimes include:
dizziness, drowsiness, anxiety;
blurred vision, dry mouth, stuffy nose;
ringing within your ears;
weight gain, swelling with your hands or feet;
impotence, trouble using an orgasm; or
constipation.
This is not a complete listing of side effects while others may occur. Tell your medical professional about any unusual or bothersome side effect.
Stop using promethazine and call a medical expert immediately if you've twitching or uncontrollable movements of the eyes, lips, tongue, face, arms, or legs. These could be early signs of dangerous negative effects. Promethazine might cause negative effects that may impair your opinions or reactions. Be careful should you drive or do anything that needs that you be awake and alert. Avoid alcohol consumption, that may increase some in the unwanted effects of promethazine. There are many other medicines that will connect to promethazine. Tell a medical expert about all of the prescription and over-the-counter medications you employ. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and prescriptions given by other doctors. Do not employ a new medication without telling a medical expert. Keep a list together with you of all the medicines you have and show this list to any doctor and other doctor who treats you.
Important safety information:
Promethazine should not be given to a young child younger than 2 years old. Promethazine may cause severe breathing problems or death in a child younger than 2. Carefully follow your physician's instructions when giving this medicine to a kid of any age. Do not use this medication if you've severe asthma, emphysema, or another breathing problem, or in the event you are allergic to promethazine or another phenothiazines like chlorpromazine (Thorazine), fluphenazine (Permitil), perphenazine (Trilafon), prochlorperazine (Compazine, Compro), thioridazine (Mellaril), or trifluoperazine (Stelazine).
If you have certain conditions, you will need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use this medication. Before you take promethazine, tell your physician if you've:
a good reputation for seizures;
heart disease or high blood pressure;
liver or kidney disease;
severe asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or other breathing problem;
sleep apnea (breathing stops while asleep);
glaucoma;
a stomach ulcer or digestive obstruction;
bone marrow depression;
adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma);
enlarged prostate or issues with urination;
low numbers of calcium with your blood (hypocalcemia); or
if you've ever a serious complication while using the promethazine or any other phenothiazine.
FDA pregnancy category C. It just isn't known whether promethazine is harmful to a unborn baby. Tell your doctor in the event you are pregnant or intend to conceive during treatment. It just isn't known whether promethazine passes into breast milk or if it might harm a nursing baby. Do not use prescription drugs without telling your physician should you are breast-feeding a child. Older adults may be prone to have unwanted effects from promethazine.
